520 | |a Some of his fellow scientists call him Mad Dog Roubik, a reputation David Roubik has earned for his ability to endure physical discomfort, a desired trait for anyone studying bees. Roubik's studies take him deep into the rain forest of Panama where, since 1979, he has been studying the effect of Africanized honeybees on the Panamanian environment. National Geographic Television cameras follow Roubik into the rain forest to collect colonies from the many species of bees that inhabit the area. Audiences learn the bees' honey-producing practices, foraging strategies, and defense tactics. Beeman will also explain how the "killer" bees are disrupting the biological order of the rain forest, and why Rubik feels they may pose a real threat to the ultimate survival of many of the natural inhabitants of the rain forest. Join with National Geographic for a visit to Panama and the scientist known as Beeman. | ||
